  • Polyolefin Strings

I might be the only stringer who still believes there is a place for polyolefin strings. What is it? Well technically it’s still a plastic just like nylon and polyester, however Polyolefin is almost as soft as natural gut but has limited stretch like polyester.

Do you ever see someone’s strings that are completely frayed? Well, that’s what happens when you put multifilaments in the crosses. It may be soft but it doesn’t hold up well to the friction of main strings sliding over it. Don’t worry there’s an alternative. Polyolefin is a different type of plastic. It’s not a nylon. And the way they manufacture the string is to wrap multiple ribbons to make the string. The advantage of this is that it allows the main strings to slide over it (like polyester does) without it fraying. And despite its softness it also doesn’t have a lot of stretch and behaves similar to polyester. Which I believe is more in line to how more modern racquets are engineered.
