Iga Swiatek has a game like no other. Wait. Yes she does. She’s a huge fan of Rafa and modeled her entire game after his… she swings BIG on EVERY ball. She plays with a string called, Ice Code but it’s a polyester and…. polyester is famous for it’s short lifespan. And if you’ve ever played with polyester, you probably hate it when they bag out in the middle of a match. So I set out to create a hybrid that gives you as much as Iga leaves on the court and for the life of the string.
You might not even know the polyester has bagged out. I had a 3.0 client who was getting frustrated with tennis because he couldn’t keep the ball in. When he swung big, the ball had no power and when he pushed it, the ball sailed… so I asked if I could hit with his racquet. First thing I noticed was that his strings were 4 years old. RPM Blast 17 in the mains and a multifilament in the crosses. The RPM Blast is what many professional players use and it is FAMOUS for losing tension extremely quickly. His strings felt as loose as a fisnet. So if I swung slow, the strings launched the ball like a trampoline. And when I swung big, the strings had ZERO power. I couldn’t hit a ball in the court. So for a developing tennis player like him, the inconsistency of the strings made tennis almost impossible to build any foundation.
In the mains I’ve put a firm nylon that has been used since the 80s so it’s tried and true. The firmness helps you know you’re in control the ball. You might think that because it’s firm, it doesn’t have any power. But it’s one of the more powerful nylons made. And because it’s nylon, its properties stay linear throughout its entire life (unlike polyester). Meaning: a slow swing= less power and a fast swing= more power. I find most developing players need this linear relationship.
In the crosses is Natural PEEK. It’s softness and smooth surface allow those main strings to impart lots of spin on the ball. And its softness is nice and easy on the arm for those off-center hits. It’s an amazing compliment to the power and stiffness of the nylon mains.
- string mid to lower tension range
- maintains tension extremely well
- I have multiple variants of the white nylon mains- some with LOTS of power and some with medium power and some low powered
- this hybrid perfect for 3.5 and lower players who are developing their swings and need a string that stays consistent until it breaks
