Roger Federer plays with a natural gut hybrid that sells for… $45 a set! It’s sold by Wilson and is called, Champion’s Choice. For the rest of us muggles, we’ll just have to settle for something else. If you’re looking for that Federer power and spin but on a tighter budget, I think I have the solution for you.
You might have switched to a multifilament due to arm issues. It solved the arm issue but created another: it doesn’t spin the ball. A full bed of NXT or NRG2 may be super comfortable but the strings fray and they lock up. Until now…
I’m the type of person who thinks there is a solution for everything if you just search hard enough. And I think I’ve found it! This hybrid has just as much comfort as your Wilson NXT but can finally put some shape on the ball. I’ve selected a 16g crisp & powerful multifilament in the mains that’s as powerful as natural gut. Combined with a smooth and slick PEEK cross, it allows the multifilament main strings to impart spin with ease. Don’t be fooled by the PEEK strings in the crosses. They may look like a polyester monofilament but they’re actually softer than the multifilament in the mains! It will hopefully restore your faith in a string design that some people feel is outdated.
- 60lbs max tension
- doesn’t go dead like poly because there’s no poly in the crosses
- maintains tension extremely well
- if you’re a heavy hitter, the multifilament may not last long due to all the spin it puts on the ball. I would replace the multi with polyolefin which is MUCH more durable.
- yes, I know it doesn’t look EXACTLY like Federer’s strings but we can use our imagination, can’t we?
