Story time… I had a 3.0 client who was getting frustrated with tennis because he couldn’t keep the ball in. His swings were sometimes fast, sometimes slow. The situation didn’t matter. I also noticed that when he swung big, the ball had no power and when he bunted it, the ball sailed… so I asked if I could hit with his racquet. First of all, his strings were 4 years old… RPM Blast 17 in the mains and a multifilament in the crosses (btw, I hate multifilaments in the crosses because it frays over time). The RPM Blast is what many professional players use and it is FAMOUS for losing tension extremely quickly. His strings felt as loose as a fishnet. So if I swung slow, the strings launched the ball like a trampoline. And when I swung big, the strings had ZERO power. The ball barely sailed past the service line. So for a developing tennis player like him, the inconsistency of the strings’ response made tennis almost impossible to build any foundation. This made tennis extremely frustrating for him.

Time to ditch those polyesters. In this hybrid, I’ve put a firm nylon in the main strings that has been used since the 80s so it’s tried and true. The firmness helps you know that you’re in control of the ball. You might think that because it’s firm, it doesn’t have any power but this is one of the more powerful nylons made. And because it’s nylon, its properties stay linear throughout its entire life (unlike polyester). Meaning: a slow swing= less power and a fast swing= more power. I find most developing players need this linear relationship.

In the crosses is Natural PEEK. It’s softness and smooth surface allow those main strings to impart lots of spin on the ball. And its softness is nice and easy on the arm for those off-center hits. No more jarring mishits. It’s an amazing compliment to the power and stiffness of the nylon mains.

  • string mid to lower tension range
  • maintains tension extremely well
  • I have multiple variants of the white nylon mains- some with LOTS of power and some with medium power and some low powered
  • this hybrid perfect players up to 3.5 who are developing their swings and need a string that stays consistent until it breaks
