Image is everything, right? Agassi first started using Kevlar/Aramid strings in the 80s. What is Kelvar/Aramid? It’s what bulletproof vests are made of. Kevlar is actually has more tensile strength (resists stretching) than polyester but this combo is tried and true since Agassi first started using it on tour. Remember that mullet?? And those denim shorts?? OMG.

For those who break polyester strings regularly this is your hybrid but without all the harshness and longevity shortcomings of polyester. Plus it’s actually very good at absorbing vibrations since kevlar/aramid strings are made of hundreds of fibers twisted together. Out of all of my hybrids, this is one of the stiffest. Some players say this has just as much spin as a full bed of poly. And to drive the nail on that poly coffin, this hybrid remains playable until it breaks since there is zero polyester in it.

He first used “synthetic gut” in the crosses (I don’t recommend doing this as it would break your arm) but then later switched to natural gut in the crosses. Natural gut isn’t for everyone (for the cost and maintenance) so I’ve substituted it with cross string options that mimic the properties of natural gut. So I have 2 versions:

1. Natural PEEK in the crosses (has the same softness of natural gut but less power)
2. Flourocarbon in the crosses (has the same power of natural gut but more stiffness)

Hopefully you’re familiar with PEEK since it’s what my whole stringing identity is centered around. But flourocarbon?? It’s the same material they coat on your frying pan known by the brand name: Teflon. Because of it’s non-stick nature, it allows those Kelvar main strings to impart more spin than natural gut would allow. It is an amazing combination. The overall stiffness is similar to a full bed of stiff “synthetic gut” but the Kevlar fibers help absorb vibrations better than you would think.
