Forget the men’s G.O.A.T. debate because without question, Navratilova is the winningest player in HISTORY with 167 singles titles and 177 doubles titles! None of the big three have anything CLOSE to that record.
Did you know that Martina would practice with nylon strings and then for her matches, she would re-string with natural gut? I think she understood value. So with that in mind, I’ve created a hybrid with the goal of value with the PEEK goal of arm friendliness.
Natural gut isn’t everyone’s cup of tea because it’s so soft and stretchy. So many tennis players grew up with the stiffest polyesters and are used to that feeling. But when you start getting arm issues, things need to change. The simplest solution you always hear is to string with multifilament. However that doesn’t always work for everyone. Multifilaments can feel quite stretchy if you’re not used to them. I think I might have found that softer solution without sacrificing that polyester feel.
Enter polyolefin. It’s almost as soft as natural gut, has almost as much power but isn’t as stiff as polyester. However it does have the same stretch as polyester, or lack thereof. So you get that polyester response with the comfort of a multifilament and power of natural gut. It’s quite amazing. I cross it with the OG G.O.A.T. of “soft” polyesters, Isospeed Cream. Why a soft polyester in the crosses? Because Isospeed Cream allows the main strings to snap back, imparting more spin and is much more durable for use as a cross string (natural gut in the crosses tends to fray and lock up).
- you can string this at the same tension as your polyester setup
